MAHJONG

My elder sister’s called me on the phone “tonight we go ah san’s house to celebrate 中秋 (mid autumn festival) ya”. My initial reaction is ““ha? Still 中秋? Whats are we going to do there?” My sister’s replied “Ah san’s asking us to go to his house to eat moon cake and play cards”

I only got one elder sister and we all call her “tai kar cher” mean big sister in Cantonese and Ah san is my younger sister.

Even though mid autumn was over a week ago, but after all I think family gathering and playing cards session is not too bad. I just said yes without checking with my husband whether he can make it or not. I was just wondering, why this round is playing cards instead of our usual mahjong games (our most favorable family outing). My whole families enjoying playing mahjong including my 3 year old nephew but not my husband. That’s why card games come into the pictures. My younger sister’s worries that my hubby will be boring. My hubby enjoying card games but he only know a few simple games.

My hubby’s was trained by his parents from young, not to touch anything related to gamble (mahjong and cards) and no exception even though playing for funs . Maybe this is the reasons he has no interest at all with mahjong. My late father in law’s was a mahjong operator. Basically he provides the amenities for mahjong game (place, mahjong tiles, drinks and foods) and in return he gets some commissions. It’s pretty common to find such a place in china town and normally these activities will be carried out at various associations.

Maybe my hubby also finds the mahjong too complicated. I really kowtow to the elderly who actually counts the points very quickly. Me my self having hard time of counting my fingers.

Good sides of mahjong

  • Fun game to pass time
  • Enhance relationship between the players. Basically you have the time to chit chatting about anything during the mahjong sessions. (of course we have to understand the “money” is not so much about gamble but just some incentives for you to stay awake and we all play among families members/friends… not so much of the money issues. Don’t ever play with the “lan tou kwai” (those who really gamble). This is totally the opposite of everything.
  • Increase blood circulation. (your heart will beat twice the rate when you are about to get your game points tiles)
  • Prevent “lou yan chi ngoi”.
  • Good exercise for arms and brain.

That night, we still ended up playing 4 persons Mah Jongs games. My younger sister’s lost 30 cents after 2 games… I think the next time we have to adjust the incentives… or else will really fall asleep. No matter how deep is our loves to the games…

Finding new experience in life

I bought a concert ticket!! Perform by my so call idol during my teenager age. Yes!! Alan Tham concert on my special day. A bit sad caused my dear hubby’s don’t want to come along. Yeah no excuse that he don’t know the songs… but to me it is all about the moments being and doing things together. Don’t you girl out there have the same issues with guys… its really hard to make them understands. Most of the time!!

I found out that he actually knows quite a bit of Alan’s songs, but maybe these songs don’t seems like trigger any special memories in his life or he is just being stubborn as per him. Thus instead I go with my elder sister's and ah Juan's, my brother in law.
Hahahaha 3 middle age fellows, go for a concert for the first time!!!! Really “sua ku”.

So somebody might think ohhh! My hubby’s must be the fans of late leslie’s, so he hates Alan’s!! Or maybe he doesn’t even like music. hahahah!! Not even close…Believe me, he is actually listening to those hokien songs. “su su liam liam, su su liam liam” kind of song during his teenager age. No offend to hokien lang here. Caused I don’t really have any idea I will marry to a hokien lang. I don’t even speak or understands a single word. And I am not even known that not all malaysian chinese is actually understand Cantonese. i thought everybody speak cantonese and I found out the true when I work at klang right after I finished my form 5. I was so naïve at that time. When I first expose to these hokien song, I was really laugh out loud . The language sounds rude or feeling like speaking dirty words or very yoke ma in cantonese. This is just because I used to cantonese and I think probably hokien lang should have the same feeling for Cantonese.

Ah Juan's cantonese is worse than my hubby's or the best is" ½ kati, 8 tahil" or "bun ken bat liong". I did ask him, whether he knows alan's songs? And in fact he really did. He used to listening to Alan’s song during his teenager time and my sister's told me that he used to pronounce Alan’s name as “Tham Mei Loon”.

So why suddenly 3 of us have the urged to go concert and some more I am going without my life companion being with me on my special day? somehow and somewhat remind us of our value for life.

Ah Juan father's was living alone at his remaining years of his life. His wife goes earlier before him. As usual, the elders at rural area won’t like city life. I think just because they don’t like to change their life style… probably we will think what life style they have at kampung? His daily life is just a simple routine. He is enjoying collecting rubbish. Whatever you can name it. The rubbish he collected pilled up his whole house and he only leaves a narrow way leading to his room.

His other hobby is attending those Japanese company sales talks and collecting the little free gift by end of every session. Bottom line is collecting every single thing that is free and he won’t throw anything at all… including all the left over food.
He passed away somewhere ends of last year and I inherited some of his collections (basket he collected from attending sales talk). his collections were too many and they have to hire lorry for 4-5 trips to clear all the rubbish in the house.

Ah Juan father's did sufferred before he go. His life has changed since he had an operation. He moved to KL to stay with ah Juan's. Since then, he had no more things to do ..He doesn’t enjoy watching TV or reading and basically he had nothing to do. He just sits at the balcony counting how many people or cars has passed by. And the fact is thier apartment is isolated… you will hardly see more than 10 people/cars a day. You know what’s the common thing will happen to old people after operation…no appettide, then weak and fell. his health deteriorate day by day. the last moment is just lying on bed counting the days and it take him around a year time.

One thing he reminds us is to enjoy our life. Pursuing and experience all kind things while we still can. It is important that we have hobbies but the most important things here is adapting to the environments. Always finds new hobbies and don’t “sek ku pat fa”.

I do not know how long I can live. can I live until old age? Alone or with my hubby? No one can guarantee we can still stand or walking or even alive tomorrow. Most of the singer during my teenager age has gone. Daniel Chan, Loh Kei, leslie, teressa teng and the most recent Anita Mui. Thus please spend your money and do whatever thing you wanna do… or experience new things and you may find out that you like it or the worst is just keep it as an experience in your life.

Some how I found that the concert is not that bad…just alan’s sang too much mandarin song. When he sings those Cantonese songs, I have this feeling that I am back to my teenager life. Experiencing the thing that I never been thru during my teenager life… screaming!!! like I am 18 years old. I saw my sister enjoying too. She never failed to respond to alan’s and the crowd. She is asking me “why I am not screaming”. of course sometime i keep quite!! “I just wanna save my voices for my favorite songs” I replied. It’s too bad that Alan’s didn’t sing 忘不了你.

She asked "which singer o'jin likes ya and we will go the next time". She used to spends wisely and me as well. Maybe we are not from wealthy family or we actually inherited our parents’ conservative genes. She is now even signed up for slimming course. As long as we are happy!!! The money we spend is really worth it.
But please remember ya!! don’t spend until you have to suffer at later life ya!!!! Enjoy two years and suffer the rest of your life. As long as you are spending the money you owned now… then you are saved :P and of course save for rainny days

Just another murder case!!

I walked to the morning market with my hubby just located nearby my condo on last Saturday. This is not a normal usual days. Many cars jam up the whole Sungai Long. I can smell the fuel emission from the vehicles polluted the whole areas. As I reached the guard house, my hubby approaches the guard and asking him what’s happening. The guard told us that a tarcian got killed yesterday and the policeman is putting up road block at the exit way from Sungai Long. The incidents took place at Taman Rakan (adjacent to Sungai Long) and he has no further information’s. This is seems like a major case and I never seen this kind of situation since I shifted to my condo 4 years ago. The Cars are pack up full at the main road and all the inner lanes in front of the shops house as far as visible by my naked eyes

We have one common thought…what wrong with Tarcian students… We already heard two cases recently which caused their life. They are just ordinary students, are they rich? If this is so, and just take their money, and go lah…….Why killed them…
We are just discussing the matter along the way to the market and maybe it is just coincident caused both the two cases happened nearby UTAR and the majorities who walking back home are students. And on the other side we are debating whether there are just the targets. If this case is similar to the previous two cases, which is geographical disperse and probably the rumors have a concrete based. We just become very curious and proceed to approach the people at the market.

As we first reached the chicken store, I just do not hesitate to ask the chicken seller while buying some chickens. “What is the traffic jam all about ya?”.
“yalah! Police road block this morning!! ” the chicken seller replied…
My reaction is “ha?This morning? There are still many cars piled up in fronts of the junctions and roads nearby my condo”
He just replied “Just now the cars were queuing up from here till end of the stretch of the market … the traffic is clear now”. (The wet market at Sungai Long is just along the road side and there are just few cars around)

By then I already get what I looking for but I am still didn’t get the answers yet. We stop by the next store at the makcik nasi lemak store… and my hubby was chit chatting with her and then asking her what is happening…
The makcik said” dengar ada orang India gaduh. ada orang mati… sampai kepala tak jumpa” We are just listening. Again it is an issue with Indian gang fighting which happened quite frequently and I am relief caused nobody is actually picking up on tarcian students …it’s just rumors only….

Then we proceed to the next store, we saw our usual fruit seller at the vegetable store discussing about the incidents… and we just “kay poh” for a while….

Aiii!!!! To my surprise… it is totally another story… this round is the students age 16 years old… beat to death by a bunch of Malay boys…

Seems like their story is more reliable caused they had mentioned that this has been published in news paper… the boy is from Mahkota Cheras (nearby neighborhood) and he is not the one who picking up the troubles… he died for his friends.
The vegetables sellers, “the mother and the daughter” were arguing in hokien... I am asking my hubby what they are talking about… its seems like they are discussing what to do during this kind of crisis… the daughter said call the police and the mother disagreed and said that the police won’t response to us so fast… and added that the friends and people around should helps.
The daughter disagreed and commented “who dare to help? They already warned that anyone trying to help, they will beat him till die”.

And now I understand what will happen when information passes around.
We just stop asking anymore and go to the nearby store and pick up the star when we finished the marketing. As usual we can’t find any news on this kind of incidents in the star.

No matter what’s the story is… the fact is our society is demoralize now days. Killing a human being is no longer a concern to many out there. Either the killer (no reasons to kill) or the society at large (This is just another murder case. What is the big deal?).
People are just watching others being rob or killed without any helps. Or maybe! The people are actually caring but just helpless…. What’s to do and I don’t think I dare to intervene any fighting by my self. I am scared too.

I hope for all the Malaysian, please stand up and fight for our rights! The rights to live in a peaceful country and for me this is the basic rights for living!!! 團結就是力量
ya … I know… saying is really easy..!!! MALAYSIA BOLEH!! Kita saja ingat apa pun boleh tapi sebenarnya banyak yang tak boleh.

Any hero or heroin out there? Superman? Batman? Spiderman? Please protect us!!
